Mattaponi Baptist Association
The Mattaponi Baptist Association started right here in Caroline County in the county seat of Bowling Green at Shiloh Baptist Church. The Association is a family of Missionary Baptist Churches that provide pastors, church leaders, and churches with various opportunities for fellowship. This fellowship was first started in 1879 at Shiloh Baptist Church and now consists of 72 local churches.
Oliver Cemetery Project
The Caroline County Cemetery Group is working to preserve and identify those individuals buried at the Oliver Cemetery, a forgotten and neglected historic African-American Cemetery located off Route 639 on the property of St. Mary of the Annunciation Catholic Church in Ladysmith, Virginia.
The members are a diverse group from the community with a deep commitment to preserve local history and pass it on to future generations. The Caroline County Cemetery Group is reaching out to the community for assistance in identifying the individuals buried in Oliver Cemetery. Their program will include plans for access through a highly wooded area, details on documentation, restoration, and preservation.
